Hofburg Geschichte

Ohne einheitliches Konzept wuchs die Hofburg über die Jahrhunderte zu einem der größten profanen Gebäudekomplexe Europas, einem Denkmal österreichischer Geschichte mit einer verbauten Fläche von über 250.000 m2 , 19 Höfen, 54 Stiegen und etwa 2.600 Räumen. Die Hofburg wird heute von zahlreichen Institutionen für politische, museale und touristische Zwecke genützt. It can be said that the Hofburg – with 19 courtyards, 54 staircases and some 2,600 rooms with a total floor space of more than 250,000 m2 – has developed unsystemati- cally over the centuries to become one of the biggest secular buildings in Europe and an impressive monument to Austrian history. Today the Hofburg is used by several institu- tions for political activities and as museums and tourism facilities.
