Jahrhundert unter der Regentschaft von Karl VI. und seiner Tochter, Maria Theresia, war die produktivste Bauphase der Hofburg. Aus dieser Zeit stammen die Gebäude am Josefsplatz: der Prunksaaltrakt der heutigen Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek, die Winterreitschule, der Redoutensaaltrakt und der Augustinertrakt. In der Platzmitte thront das Reiterstandbild des bekannten Reformkaisers Josef II. The most productive period of construction at the Hofburg was in the reign of Karl VI and his daughter Maria Theresia in the 18th century. It is during that time that the buildings on Josefsplatz were built: the Prunksaal of today’s Austrian National Library, the Winter Riding School, the Redoutensaal Wing and the Augustinian Wing. The middle of the square is dominated by an equestrian statue of the reformist emperor Josef II.
