Hofburg Vienna – where everything revolves around successful events

The Hofburg Vienna state rooms have always set the scene for major celebrations and gatherings with star-studded guest lists.

And events in 2025 will revolve around a major musical milestone: the celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss II’s birth. Known as the Waltz King, he worked as the Director of Music for the Imperial and Royal Court Balls at the Hofburg state rooms – where his legacy will get the Hofburg ball season off to a swinging start in 2025. More than 300 international events will follow during a very busy congress- and event season.

2025 Hofburg ball season - let’s waltz!

This year, the ever-popular Hofburg balls have already sent attendance records tumbling. And in the Johann Strauss II anniversary year, a very special atmosphere and no end of entertainment are guaranteed.

A packed line-up of glamorous ball nights promises plenty of unforgettable moments for dance fans. The Blue Danube Waltz is a classic example of Viennese ball tradition and the 200th anniversary of the birth of the “Waltz King” (Johann Strauss II) provides a perfect opportunity to celebrate a major milestone for the 60,000-plus visitors who are expected to attend the 17 traditional balls this year.

Strauss revolutionised the traditional music scene and entertainment in general, shaping numerous trends at the time. His popularity and appeal remains undiminished to this day. Though Strauss never really had the opportunity to join in all the dancing himself, his Fledermaus Quadrille is among the highlights of any ball. Hofburg Vienna provides the stage for bringing Strauss to life in Vienna.

This calls for perfect coordination between all the specialists working away behind the scenes, largely hidden from guests. The Hofburg Vienna team and a multitude of experts from our partner enterprises – such as MOTTO Catering, as well as decorative plant and flower arrangement specialists, technical service providers and orchestras – all play their part in a diverse and highly successful ball season.

The numbers at the incredible ball location speak for themselves: the MOTTO Catering team alone prepares for the ball season around 9,000 portions of AMA quality-certified Sacherwürstel sausages served with 12,000 Kaisersemmel bread rolls.

Delicious ball canapés are freshly made from more than 1,000 baguettes, and 2,500 petit fours and tartelettes ensure sweet-toothed guests are also catered for. But what would the state rooms be without atmospheric lighting – 5,082 LED bulbs illuminate the crystal chandeliers, while numerous other details come together to create a stunning ambience.

Hofburg moments – events in 2025

Savouring Vienna’s rich cultural heritage, experiencing its spontaneity and enjoying its openness to new things: all of this is covered in the wide range of events lined up for 2025

For us, the Experience Hofburg Vienna spirit is all about making events unforgettable, creating memorable experiences and those moments that leave a lasting impression – Hofburg moments that visitors love.  State-of-the-art technology and premium quality, sustainability and careful use of the available resources are a priority at the approximately 300 events we host each year.

We have various large-scale international congresses to look forward to after the ball season draws to a close. Highlights include the German/Austrian AIDS Congress, which is themed of “HIV in 3/4 Time” this year (20–22 March), as well as the 46th International Vienna Motor Symposium on 15 and 16 May in the state rooms. Perennial favourites, the Austrian World Summit and the OPEC International Seminar will be back in June and July, respectively. There are also trade shows such as the popular Weinviertel DAC 2025 wine presentation on 12 March and the annual marke[ding] on 10 April.

Interpersonal exchange and working together on shared topics will shape proceedings at every one of these events. For many, participating in a congress provides an inspirational break from everyday working life. The chance to compare notes with experts – also outside the congress schedule – is a key aspect of building new experiences and opening up fresh perspectives.

Developments and trends – technology

The rapid pace of technological change is also bringing numerous opportunities for the event industry. As the specialist for out-of-the-ordinary formats, Hofburg Vienna never stands still.

Hofburg Vienna focuses on variety, modern technology and premium quality. Events adopt an end-to-end approach when it comes to exploring the latest looks: authenticity is key, and making a statement is the order of the day. Sustainability is reflected in the design and defines all of those little touches that are put in place for visitors.

Stunning lighting spectacles act as eye-catchers, capturing participants’ attention right from the word go. Perfectly combined images, sounds, texts and other elements come together to cast a spell on participants. Sustainable materials, carefully executed technical concepts and modern

media formats bring brand messages to life and transform spaces into experiences. Whatever the event, design and atmosphere are always central to the process. Content is not just delivered through multimedia applications, it also plays out across multiple channels at the same time to ensure that communication is always centre stage.

Events are the most consistently reliable and personal form of interaction.  AI solutions are merging increasingly with offline solutions, while also helping to take company ideas and goals to the next level. With the help of artificial intelligence, they will harness the potential of a meaningful and sustainable content provider for additional communication activities. What is certain is that events will become even more closely aligned with specific needs and more sustainable through the automation of processes that also conserve resources.

“Hofburg Vienna will continue to prioritise continuous development. In combination with human creativity, the venue is driving the integration of AI and digital media into multidimensional experiences - an approach that holds enormous potential for our industry? We want to inspire our customers and, as professionals, are passionate about what we do – which is a defining element of the Hofburg Vienna’s DNA,” explains Managing Director Alexandra Kaszay.
