The restrictions on personal contact caused by the pandemic have clearly demonstrated just how important face-to-face contact is in the event industry. The fact the customers can’t wait for in-person events to return is reflected in the bookings for 2021 and beyond. We expect – pandemic permitting – this autumn to be a busy season for events.Autumn event season – interest still riding highPrecisely defined Covid-19 safety regulations and hygiene measures have long since established themselves in the world of events and our tailored prevention plan, combined with a range of custom solutions, means that we are optimistic as we look ahead to an autumn season of safe meetings and conferences. On 2 September we hosted the marke[ding] Wien fair for promotional advertising and visual communications. And from 16 - 18 September, the Austrian Dentists’ Congress focused on the latest questions and developments from the field of digital dentistry.A host of other fairs and exhibitions are also raring to go, such as Design District 1010, which will transform the Hofburg Vienna into a giant showroom for prestigious Austrian and international design, home interior, lifestyle, technology, art and accessory brands from 8 - 10 October. The HR Inside Summit – which is hosting its coveted HR Award ceremony at the state rooms for the sixth time this year – underlines just how versatile the venue is. At Art & Antique Hofburg Vienna, the fair for art, antiques and design, around 50 Austrian and international art dealers and galleries with be showcasing their top pieces from 4 - 8 November. Meanwhile, on 11 November the 18th Austrian IT and Consultants’ Day will be bringing together experts in the field for an event entitled The Future is Now – the Crisis as an Opportunity.Imperial backdrop and high tech – two sides of the same coinIn addition to state-of-the-art technical equipment, in-person events are defined by communication and sharing of information – also in the form of ambience, emotions, movement and interaction – to create a multisensory experience shaped by location, space, colour, shape, music, language and food.Carefully devised room design and joined-up concepts for the spaces in use at the events we host have a significant bearing on the overall visitor experience. After all, spaces and fittings not only create a specific ambience, but they guide us, influence our behaviour, spark creativity, trigger emotions and come together to convey that all-important coherent impression. As ever, you need to find ways of captivating participants if you want your event to have the desired effect. Interactive light and sound installations in the Hofburg Vienna state rooms are just some of the ways to make a lasting statement. Our historic staterooms provide the ideal backdrop for virtual events. The Zeremoniensaal is always at the centre of the action for exclusive salons and live broadcasts. Rather than lengthy panel discussions, these days it’s all about dynamic talks, snappy presentations and emotional moments – keep it short and sweet!A pleasure doing business – the latest exhibition trendsDespite all the advances in digitalisation, in-person events will only be a true highlight if they provide sufficient space for networking. And our exhibition and fair organisers agree. After successfully hosting marke[ding] Wien at the Hofburg Vienna, event organiser Martin Zettl confirmed what we already knew: “We are all yearning for in-person interaction and face-to-face networking with our customers and business partners! People like to meet up in an inspiring atmosphere where they can compare notes on specialist topics, or products and innovations.” There is no exclusively digital congress format that can replace this, even if digital and hybrid fairs and exhibitions are currently providing companies with a valuable alternative when it comes to raising their profile, maintaining ties with customers and responding to individual requirements while targeting a specific audience.Exhibition booths as an attention-grabbing experiential space are headline news. In many cases they set the stage for large-scale product demonstrations, or feature lighting installations worthy of a gallery that bring the space to life. All designed to ensure that visitors walk away with a closer connection to the company, its backstory, products and expertise.Last year was shaped by change, as well as the need for greater flexibility and novel approaches. Organisers of fairs and exhibitions are keeping a very close eye on the upcoming situation in Austria and abroad. Monitoring the market for indicators of wider economic developments plays a major role in this. One thing that seems clear is that smaller and more exclusive fair and exhibition formats are poised to increasingly replace large-scale gatherings.InformationHofburg Vienna, Heldenplatz, 1014 ViennaMonika Scheinost, Head of Marketing & SalesT +43 (0)1 5873666-600, F +43 (0)1 5356426E-mail: m.scheinost@hofburg.com, www.hofburg.com HTML
